The story revolves around a couple who married secretly but the husband (Govind) refused to be with Lajoo when she got pregnant and was sold to a man for just 500 rupees. Lajoo got dishearten and wrote a letter to his husband that she will never came back to him as he refused to accept his child. But Lajoo keep on writing letters to his husband on every event of his son’s life. After many years he came to know that both Lajoo and his son is in Bombay and Lajoo is about to die. Then he wants to meet his family. Movie is very dramatic having many emotional scenes too. Music of the movie is given by Khayyam and the songs of Akhri Khat includes Baharoon mai Jeevan b Sanwaro, Mere Chand mere nanhe and rut jawan jawan.
